After carrying out some archive photograph research for Herbie Syke's piece about Herman van Springel, we were reminded of the Safir jersey and how great it looked, so we got to work on the design and contacted the trademark holder for permission.
Our retro team jerseys are handmade in our Italian factory using the very best technical fabrics. Featuring a set-in sleeve, they deliver a classic fit with a consistent stretch to ensure full freedom of movement.
With an array of details, including silicone grippers, reflective detailing, and three rear cargo pockets, the Safir Ludo Galli Retro Team Jersey is perfect for looking the part at a vintage cycling festival, or just out for an all-day ride in the sunshine.
Specification
The Belgian Professional team existed for 9 years in the pro-peleton thanks to their faithful patronage from SAFIR, a wealthy Belgian brewery. Their most popular rider Herman Van Springel accolades include 7 x victories of the gruelling 1 day 560km Bordeaux-Paris race. Surprise inclusion of the 1981 Giro panicked the team bosses, aware that the riders had no stage racing experience. Van Springel did not attend the Giro and went on to win the Bordeaux-Paris race for a seventh time.
Originally brewed in Aalst, Belgium, SAFIR pilsner beer is no longer made although AB InBev still owns the name and we were delighted when they came back to us kindly granting permission to re-create this jersey.
