G.S. Solo Superia Retro Jersey

Size Guide

Eddy Merckx is well known for riding in the iconic Molteni / Arcore team jersey and possibly less so the Peugeot team jersey. But Merckx first turned professional in April 1965 when he started his journey as a pro rider with Rik van Looy's Solo-Superia team.

Our retro team jerseys are handmade in our Italian factory using the very best technical fabrics. Featuring a set-in sleeve, they deliver a classic fit with a consistent stretch to ensure full freedom of movement.

With array of details, including silicone grippers, reflective detailing, and three rear cargo pockets, the G.S. Solo Superia Retro Jersey is perfect for looking the part at a vintage cycling festival, or just out for an all-day ride in the sunshine.

Whilst history shows that Eddy Merckx is the greatest cyclist of all time (sorry Lance) with 525 victories, at the time it was Rik van Looy who was the top dog in the Solo/Superia team.

Some thirty years before Cipo's Saeco team of the 1990s, it was Van Looy's red train that used to set him up for the bunch sprints. Looking at the team's roster, you'll see some very well known riders too with Peter Post, Patrick Sercu, Edward Sels and even GB's own Vin Denson in the team.

So the team had some great riders and had some great results but the real reason we decided to produce a replica jersey was the bold design that combined red, black and white (our favourite colour combination) and the fact that it's from such a golden era of cycling.
