Gianni Bugno was an extremely versatile rider, able to win grand tours as well as winning spring classics too. I was lucky enough to witness his win at the 1994 Tour of Flanders (riding for the Polti) beating the firm and local favourite Johan Museeuw on his own turf - which as you can imagine went down like a lead balloon in the bar we dived in!
Unfortunately for Bugno, he lived in Miguel Indurain's shadow at the Tour de France, but he did win the 1990 Giro D'Italia, incredibly leading from start to finish!
If you hadn't guessed by now, I was a bit of a Bugno fan-boy back in the day. The fluid pedalling style and the fact that I owned a team-issue F Moser AX Leader team bike which I raced successfully for a number of seasons.
The bike was a heady three-colour mix of metallic navy, white and shocking neon pink all of which was painted on - no decals whatsoever.
