Cycle Sport January 2011

The 2011 Memoires du Peloton calendar from Prendas Ciclismo gives you a warm feeling. Even if it is quite frightening that the 1990s are now considered 'retro'.
Featuring the photography of John Pierce, the images are diverse but evocative, a reminder of some great races and some iconic faces.
The year begins with Chris Boardman in full flight, stretched out in the Superman position on his way to the Hour Record. By contrast, February's image of Francesco Moser on his 1984 Hour Record bike shows how the discipline used to push the boundaries of bicycle design before the UCI intervened.
By the same token, Moser is also pictured on the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix. proving just what a versatile rider he was. There is a treat for Sean Kelly fans in March, with shots of him in the two jerseys that will forever be associated with him - Skil's red and white stripes and the yellow of KAS. Laurent Fignon, who died earlier this year; is paid tribute in May.
The original weight weenie. Beat Breu, is a pleasantly surprising choice for June. The Swiss climber was known to strip his handlebar tape off and drill holes in his brake levers.
Add to that a famous shot of Claudio Chiappucci and Miguel lndurain on Val Louron in 1991, Bernard Hinault time trialling towards the end of his career, and Adri Van der Poel at the Cyclo-cross Worlds in Leeds.
The calendar is available from www.prendas.co.uk for £9.95 and is a timeless way to keep track of the year.
