After discovering an original wool jersey from the period, we could not resist adding the iconic BiC jersey of Luis Ocaña to our collection.

The early seventies was an exciting period for Spanish cycling when two stars emerged: Luis Ocaña and José Manuel Fuente.

After winning the KoM title and in 1969, Ocaña won the Vuelta a España in 1970 on the final day's time trial.

Ocaña then turned his attention to the Tour de France in 1971 and finished third in Paris-Nice and second in the Dauphiné Libéré behind Eddy Merckx.

At the Tour, Ocaña was Merckx's main challenger and brought him to his knees in the Alps. But then a devastating crash on the descent of the Col de Menté in a torrential storm left Ocaña with severe injuries after he was struck by the pursuing Joop Zoetemelk. The following day Merckx refused to wear the maillot jaune, in tribute to Ocaña.

In 1973, Ocaña won six stages and the maillot jaune over Bernard Thévenet, and became the first Spaniard to have won the Tour and the Vuelta.

Despite retiring to his French vineyard estate in 1977, Ocaña suffered from depression in later years and committed suicide aged 48.
